Vi aspettiamo per una bellissima giornata dedicata al vitigno principe dell’Oltrepò Pavese: il Pinot Nero.

L’evento, organizzato dal Consorzio Tutela Vini Oltrepò Pavese, vedrà 34 cantine presentare le loro eccellenze durante un Walk Around Tasting con banchi d’assaggio.

Dopo due anni di attesa, torna finalmente il più grande evento italiano dedicato ai vini e non potevamo davvero mancare. Dal 10 al 13 aprile 2022 ci trovate allo stand A5, all’interno del Palaexpo, padiglione Lombardia, nell’area dedicata all’Oltrepò Pavese!

This is a pure expression of Pinot Grigio that has seen just enough skin contact to turn a white wine into a pretty rosé. Actually, technically the wine shows a copper color that comes from the grayish skins of this versatile grape. The Cordero San Giorgio 2020 Ramé is perfumed and bright with peach, pink flower and candied orange peel. This wine shows a brilliant and shiny appearance, and there is some light creaminess to its soft texture.

There is good concentration and depth in the Cordero San Giorgio 2019 Oltrepò Pavese Riserva Pinot Nero SG'67, my favorite wine in this series of reds. This sample shows more all-around fruit and intensity with ripe cherry, lavender and wild plum. You could also argue that there is less varietal character in this expression, given its ongoing richness and ripeness.

The Cordero San Giorgio 2020 Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Nero Partù offers good freshness and you recognize the character of the grape, which is the basic requirement for Pinot Nero. The bouquet is floral and bright; however, the wine's execution is rather simple and flat, setting it up for near-term drinking.

The Cordero San Giorgio 2019 Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Nero Partù is a bit broader and darker compared to the fresh and zesty Tiàmat (also made with Pinot Nero) that proved so delightful and easy to drink. This wine is thicker on the mid-palate, and it takes advantage of the richer concentration that came naturally in this vintage. There is pressed cherry and plum, with some of that same tannic bitterness that we saw in the other wine. Only here, it is more decisive.

The Cordero San Giorgio 2019 Oltrepò Pavese Chardonnay Rivone is a generous, medium-bodied wine that is redolent of ripe pear, apricot, toasted almond and a touch of saffron or cumin from barrel aging. The wine is richly textured and dense, but it also offers some crisp northern Italian acidity that helps to balance it out nicely in terms of mouthfeel. You might try this bottle with a creamy seafood risotto. The 2019 vintage shows extra concentration.

The Cordero San Giorgio 2019 Oltrepò Pavese Pinot Nero Tiàmat is fragrant and bright. The wine does a nice job of showing the fresh and zesty side of this floral and wild-berry toned grape. Aromas of wild raspberry and cassis transition to violets, candied peach and Mediterranean tones of dried basil and blood orange. This is a genuine, simple and well-priced Italian Pinot Nero. It shows a slim mouthfeel with hints of bitter almond on the finish.

The 2021 Rosato Piasa impresses with a bouquet of ripe melon, sweet herbs and crushed rocks. This fleshes out across the palate with juicy, round textures complemented by a pretty inner sweetness and fresh acidity. The Piasa tapers off incredibly fresh with citrusy tension. This varietal Croatina Rosato has fully captured my attention.
